On the morning of September 25, the opening ceremony for undergraduate students of 2022 of the School of Computer Science and Technology was held in lecture hall B205 of the Electrical Building. The ceremony began with the solemn national anthem. Tao Wu (Secretary of the Party committee), Dan Feng (Dean), Leihua Qin (Deputy Secretary of the Party committee and Deputy Dean), Ruixuan Li (Deputy Dean), Song Wu (Deputy Dean), Zhihu Tan (Deputy Dean), Xuanhua Shi (Deputy Dean), head teachers of freshman and counselors attended the ceremony, and Peng Liu (Deputy Secretary of the Party committee) presided over the ceremony.

Tao Wu delivered a speech at the ceremony. He hoped the students could seize the day and live it to the full. He said that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC) is approaching and the 70th anniversary of HUST is about to usher in; the students should set firm goals and never do anything contrary to the CPC! Students should have confidence, insist on improving professional ability, build professional confidence, national confidence, and cultural confidence, and be a person with firm faith! He asked the students to adhere to innovation, use knowledge, critical thinking, and hard work to enrich their lives, and actively participate in all kinds of activities and competitions held by the school and HUST. He hoped the students can take team and graph computing teams as their models and develop skills through hard work. He encouraged the students to focus on key technical problems such as the shortage of chips, taking scientific and technological self-reliance as the orientation, and be a person daring to assume the mission of the Times! Dan Feng showed the students the culture, learning atmosphere, and living environment of the school, and introduced the research field of computer science, the development goal, the basic situation of the school, the history, and so on.
Dan Feng said that with the national economic and social transformation and the transformation of higher education, the school has accelerated its pace in the construction of world-class disciplines and contributed to the development of first-class universities with high-quality discipline construction. Feng further added that since its establishment, the School of Computer Science and Technology has made great contributions to the cultivation of relevant scientific research technologies and talents. It has established university-enterprise alliances, built research platforms, organized innovation teams to overcome difficulties, and transformed scientific research advantages into teaching advantages through curriculum construction. Zhihu Tan introduced the characteristic system of talent training, curriculum setting, special programming training, practice training, and achievement distribution. He pointed out that the school has set up the corresponding list of scientific research tasks and talent cultivation according to the national "bottleneck list", and strives to cultivate autonomous and controllable IT ecological talents. By being oriented to the system and cooperating with software and hardware, the school pays attention to students' systematic ability and comprehensive practical abilities. Leihua Qin introduced the engineering certification work of the School to students, including the overall situation, core concepts, basic requirements, professional training objectives, and graduation requirements. He pointed out that students should master the requirements of engineering certification and the role of curriculum and learning requirements to guide their own course learning, establish long-term goals, make a good plan for their four-year learning in School, and pay attention to professional ability and "soft power" improvement.

Jianjun Li, on behalf of the head teachers, suggested that the students should seize the golden four-year in college, take the School as the starting point, pay full attention to college learning, strengthen their practical ability, develop logical thinking, correct learning attitude, actively ask for advice, improve comprehensive quality, set long-term goals,and explore interests. Finally, he encouraged the students to not seek to achieve great things, but seek to live a life without regret.
Shilong Mao,the representative of head teachers for graduate students, shared his experience of four years of student life in college. He advised students to start from their interests, find the right path, and be brave to try without worrying about the good or bad results. Finally, he said he would try his best to help them have a happy and fulfilling college life.
Tianyu Xia,the student representative, inspired the students with his own experience to aim high, study diligently, dare to try, be willing to practice, have the courage to contribute, remember the motto of HUST, uphold the school cultural spirit, and "seize the dayandliveit to the full".
Freshman representative Siming Huang, from Class 2204, hopes to work together with the new students at a new starting point, inherit the TIME cultural spirit of the School, pay attention to cooperation, innovation, morality cultivation, and exploration, make new achievements, and strive to grow into a talent serving the national autonomous and controllable strategy.
