On October 25th, U.S. News & World Report released the 2022-2023 Best Global Universities Rankings, covering 85 countries and more than 40 academic fields. There are listed universities in China, including 338 universities in the Chinese Mainland. Huazhong University of Science and Technology ranks 109th in the world, 67 places higher than the rankings last year. Ranking 6th in the Chinese Mainland, HUST has achieved an improvement of 4 places compared to last year.

The leading ranking indicators of the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings are weighted as follows: Global Research Reputation: 12.5%, Regional Research Reputation: 12.5%, Publications: 10%, Books: 2.5%, Conferences: 2.5%, Normalized Citation Impact: 10%, Total Citations: 7.5%, Number of Publications that are among the 10% most cited: 12.5%, percentage of total publications that are among the 10% most cited: 10%, international collaboration: 10%, number of highly cited papers that are among the top 1% most cited in their respective fields: 5% and percentage of total publications that are among the top 1% most highly cited papers: 5%.

According to the U.S. News 2022-2023 Best Global Universities Rankings, 14 universities in the Chinese Mainland, including HUST, are ranked among the top 200 universities in the world. As a comprehensive research university under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education, HUST is a participant university of the former "985" Project in China, and one of the first universities approved under the national "Double First-Class" Initiative. HUST has been consistently striving for advancement since its founding and has earned a prestigious status in recent rankings.

In Shanghai Ranking's 2022 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), HUST is listed among the top 100 universities in the world, ranking 96th in the world and 8th in the Chinese Mainland.

According to CWUR World University Rankings 2022-23, HUST ranks 9th in the Chinese Mainland. In Shanghai Ranking's 2022 Best Chinese Universities Ranking, HUST ranks 8th in the Chinese Mainland and 1st in Hubei Province. According to the "Highly Cited Chinese Researchers" list published by Elsevier in 2021, HUST is ranked 6th among all universities, with 101 researchers elected.
