HUSTers Win the First Prize in the China Finals and Advance to the Global Finals of the Huawei ICT Competition.

From March 30 to March 31, 2024, the 8th Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Chin Finals and Award Ceremony concluded successfully at Xiamen University. HUST Teams guided by Professor Chen Yu and Associate Professor Huiyu Liu from the School of Computer Science and Technology, as well as Lecturer Chengwei Zhang from the School of Electronic Information and Communications achieved two first prizes, two second prizes, and one third prize in the practice competition of the Huawei ICT Competition China Region. One HUST team, guided by Lecturer Lei Yi from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering,  clinched a third prize in the innovation track of the competition.

The HUST team, which consists of Jinshen Zhang, Shuheng Gao, and Senlei Zhang from the School of Computer Science and Technology, was awarded the first prize in the national practice competition's cloud track. During the competition preparation period, the team diligently studied relevant theories and technical knowledge in cloud computing, AI, and big data. They utilized Huawei Cloud services such as ECS, IMS, and CCE to build and deploy an enterprise-level real-time chat software cloud-native application. They also employed the Huawei MindSpore deep learning framework to construct neural network models for efficient and accurate image classification. They also utilized components like Hive and Hue from Huawei Cloud MRS service to extract and mine big data in financial scenarios. With a clear division of labour and efficient cooperation, the team outperformed other universities and achieved high scores in cloud computing, AI and big data.

The HUST team consisting of Yongkang Li, Zilu Zhang and Runpeng Wang from the School of Electronic Information and Communications was awarded the first prize in the national Ascend AI track. As a participating team in the newly established Ascend AI track this year, the team members faced the challenge of needing more experience and methods to learn from during the competition. However, relying on the relevant technical foundation accumulated in the team project "Huawei Zhongzhi XingTian Reinforcement Learning Algorithm Porting Project," the team members overcame numerous difficulties. They advanced through the provincial competition and stood out in the national competition, ultimately winning the first prize nationwide and ranking among the top.


 


 


According to reports, the participating team qualified for the semifinals of the provincial preliminary competition in November 2023. In the provincial semifinals, they won the provincial special award. They represented Hubei Province in the China Finals, ultimately winning the first prize nationwide and earning the opportunity to represent China in the Global Finals of the Huawei ICT Competition.


The Huawei ICT Competition, guided by the Computer Education Research Association of Chinese Universities, was jointly held with universities for the first time. The "Huawei ICT Competition" is an ICT talent competition created by Huawei for global university students. It is a bridge for Huawei to connect faculty and students of universities, governments, and enterprises worldwide and build exchanges and interactions. It aims to provide students with an international learning platform, enhance their ICT knowledge, strengthen their practical skills, and foster their innovative and creative abilities using new technologies and platforms. The Huawei ICT Competition connects Huawei with universities, education with the ICT industry, and students with corporate talent needs, achieving the goals of promoting education, learning, and development through competition and jointly promoting the education, growth, and employment of ICT talents in universities, creating a benign ICT talent ecosystem.
