Opening event for Alumni’s Love for HUST in Wuhan
At 6:00 p.m., the participants streamed into the square. They got dressed in fluorescent T-shirts and doodled on the canvas to express their sincere wishes to HUST, leaving unforgettable memories.
After the graffiti, the participants slowly gathered in the square to form a shimmering “70” with fluorescent objects, decorating and sending best wishes to HUST for its 70th anniversary next year.
Opening Ceremony
“Our university’s achievements cannot be separated from the care and support of our alumni, and the credit shall be given to generations of HUSTers who are committed to excellency, unity, and perseverance”, said Vice President Xu Xiaodong. He emphasized the bond between HUST and its alumni and spoke highly of this activity in demonstrating the unremitting hard work and erudite qualities of HUSTers.
Huang Li, Chair of the HUST Wuhan Alumni Association, said that HUST will always be a solid supporter for the alumni and that he is extremely proud of the university’s development over the past 70 years. On behalf of Wuhan Alumni Association, he said he will dutifully support the celebration of the university’s 70th anniversary and that he will unite more alumni around this cause next year.
Zhang Li, Deputy General Manager of the Hubei Company of Poly Developments Holdings Group and also an alumnus of HUST, said that Poly and HUST have fostered a lasting and profound relationship in the long-term university-enterprise cooperation and talent training and that he hoped to strengthen the school-enterprise exchanges and seek further cooperation and development.
At 8:00 pm, when bright stars lit up the campus, the four speakers jointly lit the fluorescent ball to announce the official launch of the series Alumni’s Love for HUST program, as all participants stood in front of the Statue of Chairman Mao in the star-studded campus.
All the participants came to the stage for a group photo, holding the graffiti of goodwill drawn by the alumni. At the same time, Wuhan Alumni Association called out a loud and clear slogan to pass the love for its alma mater to the next host city of the program.
Night Run
As the starting gun was fired at 8:30 p.m., the participants set off from the Statue of Chairman Mao. Waving colorful fluorescent sticks and dressed in fluorescent T-shirts, they lit up the road and drew a shimmering path on the campus as they ran.
Alumni ran past the Yujia Hill and the three landmark buildings including the library, the History Museum, and the Memorial Wall of Humanities, enjoying the scenes in their old school days and feeling the strong atmosphere of “studying at HUST”.
Happy Ending
All participants completed the running route and returned to the South Gate, marking the end of the event. As the host made a concluding speech, the opening ceremony of the 2021 Alumni Culture Month and the opening activity of the series Alumni’s Love for HUST program successfully concluded. The alumni took a group photo together.
The opening event of the Alumni’s Love for HUST took place in Wuhan, and subsequent activities will be held across the country in the following year. This event showed the strong bond between the university and its alumni and won high praise from the participants. All alumni are welcome to take part in the program and celebrate the 70th birthday of HUST together.
