One Gold Medal and One Silver! HUST Made Great Achievements in the 8th China International College Students "Internet Plus" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

On November 12, the national final of the 8th China International College Students" Internet Plus" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was held online.

With the project "FPGA-based Design of Graph Computing Accelerator", the team of the School of Computer Science and Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST)won the gold medal as first place in the group after fierce competition.

"BSCloud",guided by Shenggang Wan and Changsheng Xie, was the only project that entered the final of the international competition invited by our school and won the international silver prize!

Project name: FPGA-based design of Graph Computing Accelerator

Project description: Everything is connected. In order to overcome the limitations of graph computing performed on general-purpose processors, relying on the proposition of "FPGA-basedDesign of graph computing accelerator" selected by Baidu's PaddlePaddle, the team, under the guidance of Longsheng, developed the current international leading graph computing accelerator. The team members are from the Key Laboratory of Computing Technology and System of Ministry of Education, School of Computer Science and Technology, HUST. Compared with the traditional computing scheme, it has achieved hundreds of times of performance improvement and meets the data processing requirements of the real business scenario with high throughput, low latency, and fast response. In addition, it has been incubated and landed in a variety of complex and realistic scenes such as the electricity and finance industry, and has been highly recognized by Baidu. Related achievements have been selected in the "13th Five-Year Plan" Science and Technology Innovation Achievement Exhibition, recorded in the handbook of world-leading science and technological achievements of the 2021 World Internet Conference, and won the first global champion of Graph Challenge in China. A high-performance graph computing accelerator will promote the development of multi-scenario services based on large-scale graph computing and analysis capabilities, and provide important technical support for the connection of big data applications.

Project name: Blockchain-based Distributed Massive Data Storage Platform

Teamleader: Bin Gao (Undergraduate of the class of 2017 of our school, Master of the class of 2020, and currently a doctoral student at the National University of Singapore)

Project description: In today's era, the explosive growth of data volume has spawned a vast market for cloud storage. However, cloud storage products have technical pain points such as high cost and easy data loss, so it is imperative to develop efficient and reliable distributed storage products. ICloud is an efficient distributed mass data storage platform based on blockchain and P2P technology. It is committed to the integration and coordination of fragmentary storage resources worldwide, aiming to create a low-cost, efficient, safe and reliable cloud storage product new business form.

Event background

The 8th China International College Students" Internet Plus" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition is co-sponsored by Chongqing Municipal People's Government and 12 enterprises and public institutions including the Ministry of Education, and organized by Chongqing University. In the industrial proposition track of this competition, a total of 858 enterprises submitted nearly 2,000 enterprise propositions. A total of 150 participating teams were selected from tens of thousands of registered teams and entered the national finals. In the International track, a total of 150 teams from universities around the world made it to the finals.
