On the morning of December 13, Principal You Zheng met with John Edward Hopcroft, the Honorary Professor of our university, a member of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, the National Academy of Engineering of the United States, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in the Siyuan Hall of Wutongyu Mingren Building. On behalf of the University, You Zheng welcomed Prof. Hopcroft and expressed his appreciation for his long-term concern and support for the development of computing disciplines at Huazhong University of Science and Technology(HUST). Prof. Hopcroft expressed his gratitude to the University for its warm reception, highlighted his recent years' concern in improving China's undergraduate teaching quality, and expressed his great willingness to provide assistance in this regard. He hoped to have further cooperation between John Hopcroft Lab and the School of Computer Science & Technology, HUST.
You Zheng expressed his appreciation for Prof. Hopcroft's continued concern for improving the quality of undergraduate teaching in China and thanked him for his willingness to assist with this. You Zheng said that the University would fully support the long-term and in-depth cooperation between John Hopcroft Lab and the School of Computer Science & Technology.
The relevant persons in charge of the Office of International Exchange and the School of Computer Science of our university participated in the meeting.
John Hopcroft was appointed Honorary Professor of HUST in 2013. In 2014, with his support, John Hopcroft Lab was established at the School of Computer Science & Technology, with which the School and the Lab had a practical collaboration on scientific research and talent development, including deep learning and social networking. John Hopcroft is also involved in undergraduate teaching and helping to improve the undergraduate teaching quality of the School of Computer Science & Technology.
