Current Research Projects

  • Research on a class of image features described with General Gaussian distributionbased on lie group

    which is supported by national science committee of china

    This project mainly employs the lie group theory to study the properties of image features described with general Gaussian distribution , including to discuss the distance metric, mean calculation and feature classification algorithm, and finally it is used to solve some problems of computer vision (such as the target identification, target tracking, image retrieval etc.)

  • Jan.2007 – Dec.2009, Research on human motion feature based emotion recognition in monocular videos, Supported by National High Technology Research and Development (863) Program of China under grant 2007AA01Z161, RMB 1000000. Principal Investigator.

     

    Training a machine to recognize human emotion is an active field of research generally referred to as affective computing. However, all the previous work in this area focus on making a computer recognizing one’s emotion state from his facial and vocal features, nothing has been done with recognizing emotion from human body motion features. This project focus on human motion feature based emotion recognition. Its goal is developing a multi-modal (facial, vocal and human body motion feature) emotion recognition system.

     

  • Oct.2006 – Dec.2008, Semantic based intelligent multimedia search engine, Supported by Scientific Research Foundation of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST-SRF) under grant 2006Z001B, RMB 20000. Principal Investigator.

     

    With emerging image and video databases and their rapid growth in both the professional and consumer sector, the problem of efficiently finding and retrieving the images, audio and video segments of interest stored in such databases becomes crucial. The worldwide research efforts in the area of image and video retrieval have concentrated so far on feature-level content abstraction. However, there is a “semantic gap” between the feature-level abstraction and user requirement. This project attacks the “semantic gap” problem by extracting the elements of image and video semantics. The goal is improving the search and retrieval performance at the semantic-level of content abstraction.
