Founded in 1973, the School of Computer Science affiliated to Huazhong University of Science and Technology is a key school included in the national "211 Project" and "985 Project" (“211Project ” and "985 Project" aiming to support leading Universities under Ministry of Education). The school always insists to create synergy between theoretical research and engineering development, integrate scientific research and talent cultivation. And a number of key laboratories and industry leaders have been built as our practice base. After more than 40 years of construction and development,they have become important base fortechnology innovation and entrepreneurship and from where come out a big number of professional personnel in computer field.
We attaches great importance to undergraduate education, adhering to “system-oriented, keep applications in mind” and actively engaging in the program of NationalTeaching Quality and Teaching Reform in Undergraduate education. “Computer Science and Technology” and “information security” are two strong and specialized majors developed on national level. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a newly- established major based on the strategy of promoting emerging industry initiated by Hubei Provincial government. In addition, a national level teaching team, a provincial teaching team, three national fine courses and four sharing courses of national fine resources have been developed so far. We put emphasis on collaboration between school and enterprise by partnering with some well-known domestic and foreign enterprises including Intel, IBM, Microsoft, Baidu, Sohu, Tencent, Alibaba, ZTE to set up courses and help students to form innovation communities jointly.
We focus on the training of innovative professionals and has launched the "the Advanced Class (here-in-after called “ACM Class”) for Computer Science and Technology and the “Excellence Engineering Class”, brought in the core curriculum system of the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). We invite John E. Hopcroft, the owner of Turing Award, the academician of National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering, to assist in the development of international courses. In the meantime, we regularly invite famous scholars to deliver lectures on the forefront of computer science, through which we guide our students to carry out research and practice and make scientific and technological innovation, and cultivate outstanding professionals with spirit of innovation, entrepreneurship and global vision.
1. Science & Technology Innovation: Undergraduate students have a plenty of opportunities to participate in the events related to science and technology innovation and be involved in various international and national academic competitions. Our undergraduates have been awarded in a number of events such as Microsoft Imagine Cup, ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest, and International Supercomputing Conference.
2. Application Orientation: we establish vertical practice based teaching platform by leveraging the R&D platforms in national, provincial and ministerial level, and closely engage with the leading companies in China containing Tencent, Alibaba, China Software, Technology Services Co., Ltd.
3. Development Prospect: About 30% of the graduates conduct further postgraduate education in the most prestigious universities and research institutes both at home and abroad. Most of our students enjoy great reputation in well-known IT companies both domestic and abroad.
4. Entrepreneurship support: A group of young entrepreneurs of after-80s created PPTV cohesion, Taomee Holdings Ltd and other influential new Internet companies.
Major in Computer Science and Technology
Objectives: Training professionals with excellent mathematical knowledge, outstanding innovation ability. Equipped them with skillset to research, analyze, design, develop computer system structure, computer network, software systems, computer engineering and environment of application support and manage engineering organizations.
Curriculums: C language programming, discrete mathematics, signal and linear system, data structure, algorithm analysis and design, digital circuit and logic design, computer composition principle, operating system principle, computer network, database system theory, compilation principle, embedded System, computer system structure, comprehensive practice of system ability and others.
Graduates’ options: You could go abroad, continue further study, or find research, design, development and management jobs in colleges and universities, research institutes or companies in information technology sector.
Major in Information Security
Objectives: Training professionals with comprehensive knowledge of information security theory and excellent ability innovation. Equipped them with ability to design, evaluate, research and develop in the field of computer security technology and information security system.
Curriculums: C language programming, discrete mathematics, assembly language programming, information security mathematical foundation, cryptography principle, data structure, logic and computer design foundation, operating system principle, software security, information system security, computer network security, Letter calculation, network forensics, integrated design and practice of information security and others.
Graduates’ options:You could go abroad, continue further study, or find research, design, development and management jobs related to information security in colleges and universities, research institutes, relevant departments in national information security organizations or companies in this field.
Major in Internet of Things (IoT) Engineering
Objectives: Training professionals with solid and systematic knowledge of information theory. Equipped them with ability to plan, analyze and develop the system of Internet of things and manage engineering organizations.
Curriculum: Data Structure, Computer Organization and Structure, Database System Principle, Assembly Language and Interface Design, Computer Network and Communication, Internet of Things Introduction, Embedded Operating System, Internet of Things Communication Technology, Radio Frequency Identification Technology and Application, Sensor Principle and Application, Internet of things middleware technology, Internet of things security, Internet of things data storage and management, Internet of things application system design.
